Two Newly Hired District Council Organizers Are Assigned to 252's Jursidiction

Vince Herrera will be working from Centrailia north into King County covering Thurston and Pierce Counties.  Sherry Barry's area includes Grays Harbor east to Centrailia and south to the Oregon border.  Because they are employed by the District Council they may be temporally assigned to any area of the District Council's  jurisdiction to assist in an organizing campaign.

The membership is encouraged let them know of any potential organizing target that the member may have inside information about.  Members who would like to help in organizing or have information should contact their nearest dispatch hall and the agent will put you in contact with an organizer.  The Local hopes that the membership will become involved, companies that become Union will provide jobs for those on the out of work list.

Hi my name is Sherry Barry, I am just one of 8 newly hired Organizers for the Washington Northern Idaho District Council For Laborers.

To share a bit of my history with the laborers, I joined in 1997. I joined via the Laborers Apprenticeship Training Program. I worked in many different areas of our field. I did work in the Heavy/Highway, Commercial Building, Asbestos and Hard Demolition.

I must say, the longer I was in the Union, the more and more I developed a great sense of pride. With that pride I began to get involved with the many different volunteer efforts  that in some way or another effect our industry, as well as our Organization.  I have been a volunteer participant in the political, community out reach, and member education for the purpose of all of the above.    I have worked with a lot of great members who also gave many hours of their time volunteering for the good of our Organization.  I would like to thank all of you for the time you gave and will continue to give. This is our Union and we must remember what we put in, we get back.  I look forward to working hard for this Organization in bringing up our Market Shares, and I feel very fortunate to have the privilege to do so.

Hi, my name is Vicente (Vince) Herrera.  I began my career in construction in early 1980 in San Dimas, CA working for a non union construction company. In mid 1990's I join Laborers Local 252 and worked out of the Union hall up to time I was hired by Washington & Northern Idaho District Council of Laborers in May 2005 as an Organizer.  Prior to being hired by District Council I had worked in the paving, pipe laying and concrete industries and had participated in an organizing school in Portland.  During the training we worked on three different organizing campaigns.

Having started my career in the non union sector I'm well aware of benefits that union membership does provide.  Being bilingual will be a big help in organizing my brother and sister Hispanics and letting them know what belonging to Union can do for them.

I am looking forward working as organizer and hope that the membership will provide leads to organizing opportunities and will help if called upon for assistance.
